Dr. Mark Henderson is President’s Professor Emeritus at Arizona State University, having retired in 2019 after 35 years in the Engineering School at ASU, the final 8 years as Associate Dean of the Barrett Honors College.  He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue.  Although his early research was in geometric modeling, since 2005 he has published more on global design education, design thinking and curriculum development, especially around social entrepreneurship and product design for developing countries.  Post-retirement, he continues to work with GlobalResolve (http://globalresolve.asu.edu), a program he co-founded at ASU to collaborate directly with developing communities on local problems.  Since 2006, GlobalResolve has worked with 800 students on 150 projects in 13 countries, mostly on health, education and agriculture.  Current projects are in Kenya, Nepal, Mexico, Indonesia, St. Lucia and the South Pacific.  He is also a founding faculty member of the Department of Engineering at the Polytechnic campus and a co-founder of InnovationSpace (http://innovationspace.asu.edu), a multi-disciplinary, two-semester product development experience.   He received the 2014 Humanitarian Award from Tempe Sister Cities, has served on several non-profit boards including Carbon Roots, International and currently serves on the GlobalResolve Advisory Board.
